The passengers were planning to take the Ovation of the Seas liner to Alaska when they were told they did not have permission to board because they were not vaccinated against COVID-19, KIRO reported.

The group said they brought proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours, which was what they thought was the requirement.

It wasn’t.

In May, the cruise line said any Alaska-bound passengers boarding in Seattle would have to be vaccinated starting Aug. 1, KIRO reported.

Passenger Marilyn Sylver was disappointed after planning to go on the trip for two years.

“The boat has taken off,” Sylver said. “Nobody has talked to us. Nobody has offered us transportation or seen that we had a place to stay. They just keep (acting) like ‘you’re at fault.’”

Syler said she and the others live on fixed incomes and now have to cover hotel costs and an early flight back to Illinois.

“They said vaccinated and unvaccinated is welcome,” she said. “But when we got here, they acted like we wasted our time and we knew better. We did not.”
