Coronavirus: Mother reunited with her kids after 100 days in the hospital

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis mother is back home in time to celebrate Christmas after spending 100 days in the hospital fighting a case of COVID-19 that she caught during pregnancy. The case she caught was so severe it nearly destroyed her lungs, WTHR reported.

Autumn Carver gave birth to her son at 33 weeks on Aug. 27, but she was sedated, on life support and wasn’t able to meet or hold the newborn baby for more than 50 days, WTHR reported. In October, Autumn was transferred to a different hospital in anticipation of her needing a lung transplant.

When Carver was released from the hospital, she was able to go home to see not only her new 3-month-old, but also her two older daughters, Sadie and Harlow. “I tried to ask Sadie, who is 4, what she wanted for Christmas and bless her little heart, the only thing she could come up with his that she wanted (M)ommy to come home,” Carver told People Magazine.

Carver’s husband, Zach Carver, spent much of the 100 days of her hospitalization by her side, while both sets of grandparents helped take care of the couple’s three children, ABC News reported.

On Facebook, Zach Carver is documenting the progress Autumn Carver is continuing to make in her recovery, showing her walking on a treadmill and reading to the kids under a Christmas tree.
