“Married... with Children” actress Christina Applegate has announced she has multiple sclerosis.
The Emmy-award-winning actress announced her diagnosis on Twitter Monday, saying, “A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some [expletive] blocks it.”
Applegate has asked for privacy.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic, and it occurs when the immune system attacks the covers of nerve fibers blocking your brain from communicating with the rest of the body.
The condition can cause permanent damage to the nerves.
There is no cure but there are treatments that can help manage symptoms.

Her MS diagnosis isn’t the first challenge that Applegate has faced. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a bilateral mastectomy, Variety reported.
Applegate may be best known in her role as Kelly Bundy or on the big screen in “Anchorman” opposite Will Ferrell.
She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for “Friends” twice and won it in 2003. She also was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for “Samantha Who?” in 2008 and 2009 and again in 2019 and 2020 for “Dead to Me.”
Applegate also has received numerous Golden Globe, Screen Actor Guild Awards and People’s Choice Awards nominations, according to Variety.
