SALINAS, Calif. — A set of California twins was born only 15 minutes apart, but in a strange twist, in different years.
It happened Friday night at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, when Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo of Greenfield welcomed their son, Alfredo, at 11:45 p.m. PST, People reported.
Fifteen minutes later, as the clock struck midnight to welcome 2022, Alfredo’s twin sister, Aylin, was born, according to the publication.
That means the twins were born on different days, different months and different years.

Alfredo weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce, while Aylin was 5 pounds, 14 ounces, according to People.
In a news release from Natividad Medical Center, Madrigal called the timing “crazy.”
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” Madrigal said in the release. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
The twins will join three older siblings -- two girls and a boy, People reported.
“This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career,” Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at the Natividad Medical Group, said in the release. “It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the New Year!”
