THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — A California teenager was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being attacked by six large dogs.
The 16-year-old girl, who has not been identified publicly, was initially listed in serious condition after first responders rescued her from the attack at her Thousand Oaks home at around 3:30 p.m. She is expected to survive, KABC-TV reported.
According to KTTV, a neighbor alerted authorities to the attack, after a mother and daughter exited the home trying to keep their dogs indoors. At some point, the dogs turned on the teenage girl, and the pack was still attacking her when first responders arrived, forcing them to use air horns and – ultimately – pepper spray to stop the assault.
The dogs involved were identified as Cane corsos, KABC reported.
Authorities confirmed to KTTV that the girl suffered bite marks on her head and legs.
Video from the scene showed animal control officers and authorities removing the dogs from the premises. The dogs are now in the custody of Los Angeles County Animal Control, KABC reported.
