The name of the teen was not released because he is a juvenile, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The shooting occurred June 22 around 7:41 a.m. CDT at the grocery store in Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Officers responding to the scene found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. The victim, later identified as Spenser Joseph Slavik, 36, was taken to an area hospital where he underwent emergency surgery before he died, the newspaper reported.

Three juveniles were detained at the scene as possible suspects, the Morning News reported. An arrest warrant was later issued for the 13-year-old, according to the newspaper.

It is unclear what led to the shooting, KXAS-TV reported. Police said there are no other suspects in the shooting, according to the Morning News.

In an online obituary, Slavik’s family said he was a 2005 graduate of Brewer High School in White Settlement and later took classes at Tarrant Community College.

“He loved being on a computer and was considered a whiz doing anything on them,” the obituary said. “He had a very high IQ and could figure things out very quickly before anyone else.”
