Law enforcement authorities in Florida believe that comedian Bob Saget likely fell in the bathroom of an Orlando hotel and struck his head on the floor causing the injury that ended his life, according to People Magazine.
Police suspect that Saget, 65, collapsed in the bathroom of his hotel room in the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande hotel and struck his head against the marble floor, then regained consciousness and made it into bed, where he was found dead more than 12 hours later.
According to the Orange County (Florida) Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany, Saget suffered extensive injuries to the back of his head and around his eyes.
He ruled Saget’s death was “the result of blunt head trauma.” No drugs or alcohol was found in his body.
Surveillance video showed Saget entering the hotel room at 2:17 a.m. on Jan. 9 and hanging the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the doorknob before closing the hotel room door. Investigators said the door of the room was not opened again until hotel security guards entered the room around 4 p.m. and found Saget’s body in bed, People reported.
Saget’s time of death was estimated to be around 4 a.m.
Police said they were unable to find any blood or hair on the room’s end tables or the marble countertops in the bathroom. According to a police incident report, Saget was found lying on his back in bed. “His left arm was across his chest while his right arm was resting on the bed. No signs of trauma were seen,” the incident report said.
Last week a Florida judge agreed with a request from Saget’s family to temporarily prohibited the release of any photos, video or other records related to the investigation into his death.
