In an exclusive interview with People Magazine shortly before she died, White said she felt very lucky to be so healthy at her age, and said the key to her upbeat nature is that she was “born a cockeyed optimist.”

She said that when it comes to food, she tries to avoid anything green. She does, though, enjoy eating a peanut butter, bologna and iceberg lettuce salad on white bread for lunch, NBC News reported. According to White’s assistant, it’s the same food White’s mother made her as a child.

White died Friday, Dec. 31, at 99 years old.

Ted Danson, who has worked alongside White, described her to People Magazine: “It’s not like she’s just a bubbly, joyful person. She wakes up every day and chooses to be that way. I think she leads a very purposeful life.”

Betty White is known for her work in television series like “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

White said she planned to celebrate her birthday with a small gathering of people, and as many animals as possible, NBC News reported.
