According to People magazine, Heidi, a Hartmann’s mountain zebra, gave birth to a male foal Monday as guests on the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride looked on. The 65-pound baby – the first zebra foal born at the park in 2021 – “was standing and nuzzling with mom within minutes of birth,” the Disney Parks Blog announced.

The blog, which went on to describe Heidi as “a parenting pro,” said the duo will spend some time bonding before returning to the savanna “in the coming weeks.”

The baby, who has a 1-year-old sister, Asha, “was born as part of the Species Survival Plan program, which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and ensures responsible breeding and genetic diversity of hundreds of animal species,” according to the blog.
