LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas authorities are investigating the death of University of Nevada Las Vegas football player Ryan Keeler, 20, who was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment Monday.
Keeler played football for UNLV Rebels as a defensive lineman. Head coach Barry Odom said Keeler was a transfer from Rutgers University, according to the AP.
“We are devastated to have lost a member of our Rebel family,” Odom said on the UNLV Rebel’s website.
“While I had the honor of knowing Ryan for only a couple of months, he already stood out to our coaching staff as an incredible person, student, and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Ryan’s family as we grieve along with them over this tremendous loss.”
Rebels football spokesman Mark Wallington said that the university is waiting for more information about Keeler’s death. The Clark County coroner said Keeler’s cause and manner of death are pending, and that blood toxicology test results could take weeks to come back, according to AP.
