GLENDALE, Ariz. — A married couple from Glendale stepped forward to claim a $410 million Mega Millions jackpot, according to Arizona Lottery officials.
The couple, a 70-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman, chose to remain anonymous, KNXV reported.
The winning ticket was sold at a Circle K store in Glendale on May 27, lottery officials said in a news release.
The winning numbers of 1, 5, 9, 10 and 23, and gold Mega Ball 22, were pulled in the June 9 drawing, according to the Mega Millions and Arizona State Lottery websites.
It marked the first time a winning number from the Mega Millions game has been pulled in Arizona, lottery officials said in a news release.
The couple chose the lump-sum cash option, which pays out $319.9 million. After $76 million is paid in federal taxes and $15.3 million are paid in state taxes, the couple will take home $227.8 million.
“My birthday is next month, and my left hand had been itching for two weeks, which meant money was coming my way,” the woman told Arizona Lottery officials. “I also found a shiny new heads-up penny just before I bought our tickets, so I just knew I’d be lucky.”
The couple said they plan to pay off their mortgage, set aside money to provide for their children and grandchildren, invest, and rest, KTVK reported.
The winning husband told lottery officials that “I feel lighter now and it’s incredible to know that there will never be another bill that I can’t pay.”
