The beloved comic and star of “Full House,” who was found dead on Jan. 9 in an Orlando, Florida, hotel room, helped launch the family institution in 1989. Saget, 65, appeared in 193 episodes between 1989 and 2019, according to IMDb.com . He served as host from 1989 to 1997.
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” honored its original host during its Jan. 16 episode, CNN reported. However, Vin Di Bona, the show’s executive producer, decided earlier this week that there was plenty of memorable material from Saget’s eight-year stint that audiences would enjoy.

“I’d forgotten how whimsical and crazy his host bits were -- very physical and very visual,” Di Bona told Variety . “In one show he walks on stage in front of the audience and says ‘Did I tell you it’s my birthday?’ And the audience all raises their hands with wrapped gifts for him. It’s that kind of gentle crazy humor that I want younger generations to see from him.”

Di Bona said the idea of bringing back memorable segments from Saget’s tenure was influenced by the outpouring of testimonials from the entertainment world.
The “AFV” tribute segment will run at different times in the 12 hourlong episodes that remain for the 2021-2022 season, Variety reported. The segment will open with a quick-cut montage of Saget “AFV” moments and the chyron “AFV Remembers the Saget Years.”

Di Bona believes those quick hits will be a fitting tribute to Saget, who was also a sharp-witted standup comic.
“As the rabbi said at the opening of Bob’s (memorial) ceremony, ‘He could be a handful, and he was delightful, and he was a wonderful human being,” Di Bona told Variety .
