Discount grocer Aldi intends to hire more than 20,000 U.S. workers in the coming months to accommodate its growing footprint and prepare for an onslaught of holiday shoppers.
The German supermarket chain confirmed Monday that the available positions include cashiers, stockers and associates at its more than 2,100 U.S. stores and its 25 warehouses, The Wall Street Journal reported.
New hires will earn an average hourly wage of $15 for store jobs and $19 for warehouse positions, complete with access to health care, retirement plans and paid time off, the Journal confirmed.
The competitive starting pay and benefits are intended to lure candidates in an increasingly tight U.S. labor market, where available jobs currently outnumber available workers.

“Employees come to Aldi for the competitive pay and opportunity to work for a growing national brand. They stay for the career potential and satisfaction they feel knowing their work makes a difference in the communities they serve,” Aldi U.S. Co-President Dave Rinaldo said in a prepared statement.
According to Fox Business, Aldi announced plans in February to add 100 new U.S. stores by the close of 2021, building on the roughly 70 added to the company’s footprint in 2020, as part of its “coast-to-coast” expansion.
