Alabama airline ground crew worker who died was reportedly pulled into plane’s engine, NTSB says

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An airline ground crew worker at the Montgomery Regional Airport on Saturday was killed after reportedly getting pulled into the plane’s engine, officials say.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement which was obtained by The Associated Press, that an airline ground crew worker who was killed over the week was reportedly pulled into the engine of a plane.

NTSB said in the statement obtained by the AP that the “aircraft was parked at the gate with the parking brake set when a ground support personnel was ingested into the engine.”

Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines, operated the Embraer 170, according to the AP. The flight was set to depart from the Montgomery Regional Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth prior to the incident.

“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines, said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director of MGM in the news release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

In a statement to The Associated Press, American Airlines said that the company was “devastated by the accident involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines.” Piedmont Airlines is a regional carrier at Montgomery Regional Airport for American Airlines.

According to CNN, NTSB is expecting to release a preliminary report on the incident in two to three weeks.

The Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB will continue to investigate the incident, according to CNN.

The victim has not yet been identified. No further information has been released, according to CNN.
