Renner posted on Instagram a photo from his hospital bed and a thank you for “your kind words.”

I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all,” said Renner on Instagram.

Chris Pratt, Steve Aoki, Vanessa Hudgens, and many others commented on Renner’s post wishing him well and sending him prayers for his recovery.

Renner’s publicist in a statement to The Associated Press said that Renner is in an intensive care unit after having surgery on Monday.

Renner “suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” in the accident, The New York Times reported.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal Monday, according to the AP, that Renner was helping a motorist who was stranded outside of his house on New Year’s day when he was reportedly run over by his own vehicle. The accident left Renner with chest and orthopedic injuries.

Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal, according to the AP, that she and Renner are friends. She also told the paper that she was called about the accident shortly after it happened.

In a news release, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said Renner was the only person involved in the accident but did not say how it happened.

Renner has lived in Washoe County for approximately 10 years and told the Reno Gazette-Journal in 2019 that he moved there because of the “majestic” mountains and a strong sense of community.
