GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — A 6-year-old died Sunday on a ride at a Colorado theme park.
The Garfield County Coroner’s Office said the girl became unresponsive around 7:44 p.m. after riding the Haunted Mine Drop at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, KDVR reported.
Park employees rendered aid to the child before paramedics could arrive, KDVR reported. However, she died at the scene. The circumstances leading to her death are under investigation.
The child was vacationing with her family from Colorado Springs. Her identity has not been released so the family can notify other relatives.
The park said it will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
“We are deeply saddened and ask that you please keep the family of the deceased in your thoughts and prayers,” the park said.
Glenwood Caverns bills itself the only mountain top theme park in the country. The Haunted Mine Drop is one of the newest rides at the park. It offers a simulated free fall to seated riders who are at least 46 inches tall, KCNC reported. Links on the theme park’s website about the ride had been removed Monday.
