INDIANAPOLIS — A herd of domesticated rabbits was seen hopping around a section of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Animal Care Services was contacted last week about someone possibly dumping more than 50 rabbits.
“They’re not the wild rabbits that you might see like walking a trail or something like that,” Roxie Randall, manager of community outreach for Indianapolis Animal Care Services, told WXIN.
On rabbit e was found dead and others are reported to have health issues, IACS told WISH.
Officials believe the rabbits had been abandoned, which is illegal, WTHR reported.
Most of the rabbits have been caught and are being cared for by the Indiana House Rabbit Society. The group estimates that they have caught 46 of the creatures over three days and believe that there are about 10 more.

Officials are asking for any information that could lead to the person who released the rabbits.
“It very well could have been a backyard breeding situation, or someone that they had a couple of rabbits and it just got out of control and they couldn’t handle it,” Randall told WXIN.
