ATLANTA — The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that it had indicted 26 people on charges of planning and carrying out high-profile robberies at celebrities’ homes in the Atlanta area.
The 220-page indictment, obtained by WSB-TV, alleges that many of the 26 suspects are gang members, and details 16 different incidents dating back to 2018.
“If you thought Fulton was a good county to bring your crime to, to bring your violence to, you were wrong,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said in a news conference.
Singer Mariah Carey, “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Marlo Hampton and Atlanta Falcons star Calvin Ridley were among the victims in the indictment, WSB-TV reported.
The suspects, allegedly part of the Drug Rich gang, are facing Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act charges, as well as attempted murder, home invasion, kidnapping, burglary, terroristic threats and false imprisonment, WSB-TV reported.
Willis described the Drug Rich gang as a hybrid Crips-Bloods gang.
Warrants obtained by WSB-TV indicate the suspects targeted affluent homes and chose their victims based on social media.
“Where it is kinda fun to put your things on social media and show it off, unfortunately these gangs have become more sophisticated, more savvy in how they target victims,” Willis said. “But as they’ve gotten more savvy, so have we.”
Investigators said song lyrics posted on social media are part of the evidence in the case, WSB-TV reported.
