MIAMI — A 2-year-old girl is recovering Monday after falling from the window of a fourth floor apartment in Miami, according to multiple reports.
Authorities responded around 7:30 a.m. after the girl fell from the window of an apartment in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, WPLG reported.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll told WSNV that a palm tree helped break the toddler’s fall and that she landed in shrubs. He said authorities found her alert and crying in her uncle’s arms when they arrived.
“The impact of hitting the palm tree actually guided her toward the shrubs … which provided for a … softer fall than actually striking the pavement,” Carroll said, according to WSVN.
Authorities took the girl to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
“This is something that’s a miracle but could’ve easily been a tragedy,” Miami Police Commander Freddie Cruz told WPLG. “She is in the hospital at this moment just for observation, but she is in excellent condition.”
It was not immediately clear what led the girl to fall from the window. Authorities continue to investigate.
