MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A sixth-grader in Oklahoma was given multiple awards after he saved two lives in a single day. Dayvon Johnson, 11, was named an honorary police officer, an honorary sheriff’s deputy, and a hero at the Muskogee School Board meeting, all for his actions on Dec. 9, CNN reported.
While in school on Dec. 9, Dayvon Johnson used the Heimlich maneuver on a classmate, then that same evening he helped a woman from her house that was on fire, KOKI reported.
The principal at Dayvon’s school said another student got the cap to a water bottle stuck in their throat, and Dayvon performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the cap and saved the student, CNN reported. Later that evening, he saw that a woman’s house was on fire and helped her off her porch to get to her car and to safety, CNN reported.
In a Facebook post by Muskogee Public Schools, photos show Dayvon receiving certificates from the police and sheriff’s offices. The school board also presented him with a heroism award, CNN reported.
