HONOLULU — A 101-year-old man in Hawaii celebrated his birthday Wednesday doing what he enjoys most — working out.
James Chou was born in China and moved to Hawaii in 1956 after serving in the Chinese Air Force, KHON reported. He worked many years as a professor of engineering at the University of Hawaii Manoa. Shortly after he retired when he was 68, he joined 24 Hour Fitness Pearl City.
He and his son work out at the gym six days a week.
“Dr. Chou is an inspiration to everyone he meets,” Rob Philyaw, the gym’s general manager told KHON. “In the face of a pandemic and being considered higher-risk, he makes time for exercise and rarely misses a day. We can all learn from Dr. Chou’s commitment to exercise when we’re feeling unmotivated or nervous about exercising right now.”
