ORLANDO, Fla. — YouTube star and "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie was fatally shot by a man who later killed himself inside The Plaza LIVE in Florida Friday night, according to police.
Grimmie's publicist confirmed her death in a statement sent to WFTV. She was 22 years old.
"It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord," the statement said, in part. "We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning."
The gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Orlando police.
Twitter users reported hearing at least six gunshots inside the venue, which was hosting pop-rock band Before You Exit and Grimmie.
Police said the shooter had two guns and started to open fire as Grimmie was signing autographs for fans.
Grimmie's brother was able to tackle the shooter, who then shot himself.
No other suspects are being sought. Police have not identified the shooter or a motive.
