NEW HAMPTON, Iowa — An Iowa mother will spend the rest of her life behind bars after her baby was found dead in a swing, sitting in a maggot-infested diaper.
Cheyanne Harris was sentenced Tuesday after a jury found her guilty earlier this month of first-degree murder and child endangerment causing death, The Associated Press reported.
She was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole after her new trial request was denied. The sentence was state-mandated, the AP reported.

Harris' 4-month-old son was found in a baby swing on Aug. 30, 2017. The baby's diaper was filled with maggots and the swing was found in a hot bedroom, the AP reported.
The baby’s official cause of death was malnutrition, dehydration and an E.coli infection.
Zachary Koehn, the baby’s father, was sentenced to life in prison late last year.
