PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A Florida woman was charged with driving under the influence after she was caught behind the wheel drinking a White Claw alcoholic beverage, investigators said.
A witness called 911 after seeing Denae Morrison, 32, swerving and sipping the alcoholic seltzer Wednesday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Morrison, who was driving much slower than the rest of traffic, was pulled over around 6 p.m., investigators said. She appeared disheveled and there was a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, deputies said.
“Morrison’s appearance was unkept (sic),” investigators wrote. “Her hair was in a nest, (her) skirt was sideways and (her) shoes off.”
Deputies said Morrison swayed and leaned against her car to keep balance, and that her eyes were bloodshot, watery and dilated.
Deputies said Morrison showed signs of impairment while trying to complete field sobriety tests, and added also refused to take a breathalyzer test.
She told deputies, "If I do the breath test, it is an automatic DUI," investigators said.
However, deputies said Morrison did tell them: "I had a drink at noon and two while driving home -- well, in the car. They are only 5%."
Morrison was arrested and charged with DUI, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. She was released on her on recognizance.
She was previously convicted of DUI in 2010.
