QUINCY, Fla. — A middle school teacher is in jail after police say he was passed out in a car at a Burger King restaurant after allegedly taking drugs.
The Tallahassee Democrat reported that, according to a Gadsden County Sheriff's Office arrest report, Guy Raynak, 44, was found by police officers Monday in his vehicle at a Quincy, Florida, Burger King.
Raynak was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where Sheriff's Office officials were called, the publication reported.
WXTL reported that a security officer at the hospital gave authorities a sunglasses case that belonged to Raynak.
"Inside the case were two lighters, a rubber ring, a bag with about 25 Xanax tablets in it and a small bag with an orange colored pill crushed up inside," the station reported.
Police couldn't identify what the orange pill was.
WXTL reported the arrest document said that while Raynak was being examined, deputies and a doctor overheard him say he took meth and cocaine before school. At lunch, he said left the school and took a Xanax pill, authorities said.
Police arrested Raynak and charged him with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was taken to the Gadsden County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
WXTL reported Raynak is listed as a member of support staff at Shanks Middle School, according to the school's website. Tallahassee Democrat reported he was hired in August.
Gadsden County Schools' superintendent Roger Milton told the publication Raynak is on administrative leave without pay, and he will recommend the board keeps him on leave "until such time as the charges are resolved, and he completes a drug rehabilitation program."
Milton said that since the charge involved possession of a pharmaceutical without a prescription, district policy would mean Raynak could come back to work.
"So the policy says under those circumstances, the employee is given an opportunity to participate in the program, and depending upon the court charges and all of that, he could continue his employment with the district," he said.
