BEND, Ore. — An Ohio father has been sentenced to more than 2 1/2 years in prison after his 1-year-old son was found naked, injured and with methamphetamine in his system last May near Bend, Oregon, authorities said.
According to KTVZ, a judge on Tuesday sentenced Brandon Michael Blouin, 26, of Belpre, Ohio, to 32 months in prison, a concurrent 30 days in jail, and five years of probation after Blouin agreed to a plea deal.
Under the agreement, Blouin submitted an Alford plea to charges of criminal mistreatment, endangering a minor's welfare and illegally possessing body armor as a felon, The Bulletin reported. An Alford plea is defined as "a guilty plea in which the defendant does not admit commission of the criminal act or asserts that he is innocent," according to the Oregon Judicial Department website.
In turn, prosecutors dropped charges of custodial interference, child neglect and child abandonment, KTVZ reported.
Blouin was arrested last May after Deschutes County sheriff's deputies said he left his son, Bradley Michael Thomas, in a wooded area. After a six-hour search, authorities found the boy and later determined that he had a cracked skull, a broken leg and drugs in his system, The Bulletin reported.
Bradley's grandmother, who lives in West Virginia, now has custody of the boy, according to the newspaper.
