TITUSVILLE, Fla. — With just days to go before in-person learning resumes in Brevard County, Legacy Academy in Titusville was ordered to close Tuesday by an Administrative Law judge.
The Brevard County School Board voted to terminate the school’s charter agreement in November.

The grounds for termination laid out in the 51-page order included the school’s academic performance, failure to comply with federal special needs requirements, failure to comply with background screening requirements, and poor fiscal management to include “reckless” mismanagement of public funds.
“Our role as educators is to provide a free education to our kids,” Brevard Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Leading & Learning Jane Cline said in a statement.

Cline says their main priority now is getting the 137 students who attended Legacy Charter registered in Brevard Public Schools so they can start Monday.
“The timing was completely out of our hands. We’ve been waiting on the order from the judge since the end of May, and it just so happened he got the order out this week,” Brevard School Board Chair Misty Belford said.
An attorney for Legacy Academy has already filed an emergency stay and is appealing the judge’s decision.
