Tavares Home Destroyed By Fire

TAVARES, Fla. — A Tavares home was completely destroyed by a fire early Wednesday afternoon.

The home, along Banning Beach Road near Hwy-441 (see map), was fully engulfed in flames late Wednesday morning and barely a frame was left after the fire was put out less than an hour later.

The homeowner and her husband were leaving and went back inside for something when she smelled smoke.

"We think it started in the attic, because she opened the attic door in the spare room and the flame came shooting out of the roof. That's all we know," Ralph Baker said.

The homeowners got out of the house safely, but one of their dogs didn't survive.

No cause for the fire has been determined yet.
