Some look to move Halloween trick-or-treating to weekends only for safety

ORLANDO, Fla. — Some cities are looking to make trick-or-treating safer.

One study found pedestrian fatalities are 43% higher on Halloween.

Some city leaders are exploring only allowing trick-or-treating on weekend evenings, even if Halloween is on a weekday.

They said it would make trick-or-treating safer for pedestrians and drivers and allow more working parents to join their kids.

Meantime, about 160,000 people have signed a petition from the Halloween & Costume Association to establish a “National Trick-or-Treat Day” on the last Saturday of October, saying it would promote safety.
