POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A family’s Christmas was saved thanks to some very kind firefighters.
Polk County Fire Rescue said it responded to a house fire Sunday afternoon in the Preserve at Sundance area of Mulberry.
Firefighters worked quickly to put out the fire and managed to keep the fire contained to the second story of the home, officials said.
Once the fire was under control, the crew of Polk County Fire Rescue Engine 2 presented the idea of retrieving the family’s Christmas gifts, as they stood the chance of being damaged.
One of the crews inside the home, which was still in full gear, handed the family’s Christmas gifts and Christmas tree to the crews outside, firefighters said.
According to officials, all of the family’s gifts and Christmas tree were retrieved undamaged.
Investigators said they believe the fire started in the second-story bedroom of the home.
There was nothing suspicious about the cause of the fire.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
