KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A maintenance man found a science teacher dead inside of Osceola High School on Monday, according to the Kissimmee Police Department.
Investigators said 57-year-old chemistry and physics teacher, Harry Lee Moore, was found dead in his classroom, and may have died from a medical condition.
March 16 was the last day before spring break at the school, and junior Christopher Guzman said he remembered saying goodbye to his science teacher, Henry Moore.
"Right here, we said a joke, he was laughing and everything. I never thought he'd pass away here at school," said Guzman.
Students and staff said they were shocked to hear the popular teacher was found dead in his classroom.
"He was just awesome," said student Jose Maldonado.
Many students told WFTV that Moore was their favorite teacher.
He was a 36-year veteran of the Osceola County School District.
Moore was a science department chairman who taught honors physics and chemistry to juniors and seniors.
A district official described Moore as a beloved member of the community.
WFTV was told it was not uncommon for Moore to come into the classroom on the weekends to catch up on work.
"It was more than a job it was his passion for kids, for students," Maldonado said.
The medical examiner is working to determine Moore's cause of death.
There were no students on campus at the time of the discovery.
