Motorcyclist killed in hit & run crash in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — One person died and three others were injured in a hit and run crash in Lake County involving two motorcycles and another car that left the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to State Road 44 near Jay St. just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday for reports of a hit & run crash with multiple people injured.

Troopers say four people were taken to the hospital and one later died.

According to FHP, both motorcycles with two riders each on board were eastbound on SR-44 when a Dodge Stratus traveling southbound on Jay St. made a left turn onto SR-44 directly into the paths of the motorcyclists.

Both motorcycles struck the left side of the car.

Troopers say the Stratus then abruptly turned into a parking lot and left the scene.

A passenger on one of the motorcycles, identified only as a 37-year-old woman from Leesburg, died at the hospital.

The 47-year-old man driving that motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A 44-year-old man driving the second motorcycle and his 40-year-old female passenger were also seriously injured in the crash.

With assistance from FHP, Lake County deputies found a possible suspect vehicle with damage linking it to the crash scene in an adjacent neighborhood. It was covered with a mattress and the driver was gone.

According to FHP, charges are pending against that driver.
