TAMPA, Fla. — The Humane Society of Tampa Bay does not want Bart the cat returned to owner Ellis Hutson, citing concerns about the care the owner provided.
Hutson claims he has done nothing wrong and wants his cat back once Bart has healed from his injuries.
The case is now heading to court as Hutson filed a lawsuit against the Humane Society.
The lawsuit accuses the Humane Society of using the animal for its own media publicity. In the lawsuit, Hutson said he has been banned from visiting his pet and believes the Humane Society intends to keep the animal.
Bart was found on the side of a road after being run down by a car in Tampa.
Veterinarians believed little Bart was dead and he was buried, but that wasn't the last time they'd see the black-and-white cat.
Five days after being buried, Bart made it back to Huston's house. The cat had suffered head trauma, a broken jaw and an injured eye that he lost.
