WINTER PARK, Fla. — A woman is in the hospital after being shot by a Winter Park police officer in Orwin Manor Sunday morning, officers said.
Winter Park police responded to a report from a man that his girlfriend was trying to harm herself around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Harmon and Wisconsin avenues, police said.

Officers found a woman with a gun in a home near the intersection and tried to speak with her, police said.

Officers said that during the exchange, police fired on the woman, hitting her.

The woman was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound that is not life-threatening, police said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, as is standard for officer-involved shootings.
