ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando City Council on Monday will select a contractor to build a project that will improve pedestrian safety near a new school in the Parramore neighborhood.
The project will bring crosswalks, street lights and bike paths to an area where a K-8 school is being built.
Arielle Bethune, a mother of four, said she welcomes the widened sidewalks.

"That needs to be done," she said. "Especially down that road. People speed up and down that road."
The project is estimated to cost $500,000.
The school is being built on West Livingston Street, but drivers can expect traffic delays from Federal Street to West Robinson Street once the road project breaks ground.
"Overall, it's been a busy process," Bethune said. "They still have a lot of work to do, so I'm a little surprised to see how they are going to get it done by August. But I'm ready."
