ORLANDO, Fla. — People are sleeping in their cars and in tents, waiting for immigration offices in Orlando to open up.

Many people have been camping outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Orlando all weekend, after being turned away from their appointments last week.
If they don’t get their appointments in time, there could be serious consequences.
Many people said they are worried that if they don’t check in, they will be deported.

“What do we do? We just drove four hours away and her appointment is today. What do we do?” Etna Francois said.
Florida lawmakers wrote a letter to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, asking the agency to investigate the delay and help people who are seeking refuge.

It appears that a backlog of appointments is causing the delay.
We reached out to ICE but it declined to comment on the reason for the delay or what it’s what its doing to fix this.
The agency is encouraging people to schedule an appointment online.
