OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Detectives in the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Tuesday of a man who they said tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl in a Walmart parking lot.
The incident was reported Sunday at Walmart at 904 Cypress Parkway in Poinciana.
The video showed the 20-second encounter during which the man opened his driver's side door and repeatedly told the girl in English and Spanish to get into the car. The girl said no and ran toward the Walmart entrance.
"She saw me and said, 'Oh, Nana, he tried to take me. I just want to get out of here, Nana. Let's go out of here.' I said, 'OK,' then said, 'No, he might be around. We got to report this," said grandmother Niobi Jaquez.
She ran into the store crying, screaming for help, her grandmother told Channel 9's Deneige Broom. The girl was not hurt.
"I'm very proud because of the simple fact, she's being 10 and capturing what we always tell her, because I show her what can happen if you are go to with anyone who you don't know," Jaquez said.
Jaquez told Eyewitness News that the two were in the checkout line when she realized she left her ATM card in the car. The granddaughter was trying to be helpful and ran out to get it when the encounter happened.
"By the time I turned, she already had sped away, but yet I had the car keys," Jaquez said.
The man is described as a bald Hispanic in his 50s or 60s, deputies said.

Detectives on Sunday released a sketch of the man and the vehicle that they said he was driving.
The man was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt with a motorcycle on the front, deputies said.
He was driving a dark red Pontiac Grand Prix, possibly a 2008 model.
Deputies believe the man may have been sitting in the parking lot for at least 20 minutes before he drove up to the girl.
"Your heart sinks in of what would've, could've, should've. it's like having a piece of your heart torn apart," Jaquez said.
Anyone with information or anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
