DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Florida wildlife officials are asking people to do what they can to avoid bears -- after a second person was attacked in Central Florida in just the last week.
Officers said a black bear hurt man in Daytona Beach Wednesday night.

Home surveillance captured the chaotic moments Walter Hickox was attacked on his porch as he tried to shield his dog from a bear.

Hickox said he wasn’t worried about his safety. He was just wanted to protect his family.
“Not a lot went through my head at the moment, other than what’s going to happen if he gets past me and into the house where the rest of my dogs and my wife was at,” Hickox said.
Hickok’s dog wasn’t hurt.

He said he plans to install a door on the outside part of the porch and keep some bear spray nearby.
The bear has not been captured.
Last Thursday, a DeBary woman was injured by a bear while walking her dog.

To prevent bear encounters, FWC says you should avoid leaving food out.
If a bear does approach you or your dog, officers say make loud noises to scare it away.
