New monoclonal antibody treatment location coming to Central Florida, DeSantis says

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis said new monoclonal antibody treatment locations are going to open across the state as soon as more doses are received from the federal government.

DeSantis said one of the new locations will be in Central Florida, as well as others in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. He did not say when the locations will open.

In his first news conference of the year, DeSantis called for the federal government to allow states to directly purchase monoclonal antibody treatments.

DeSantis said the state is also working on guidance for COVID-19 testing as demand for tests continue to rise.

Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo said the guidelines will aim to reduce “low value” testing and increase “high value” testing. He said low-value testing could, for example, be of an 8-year-old while high-value testing could be of a grandparent.

Lapado said high-value testing is testing that is more likely to change the clinical outcome.
