ORLANDO, Fla. — Pharmacies across Florida are set to get more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week.

In the next few days, Walmart, Winn Dixie and Publix will begin to distribute the vaccine.

The rollout is part of a White House plan to make the COVID-19 vaccine more widely available and help people who live in communities without easy access to hospitals or convention centers.

Publix was the first retail pharmacy to begin administering the vaccine.

“We picked these three companies because right now they’re not busy doing other stuff. And so you know, at some point in time when we get more doses we’ll turn on more pharmacies,” said Jared Moskowitz, director of emergency management.

Moskowitz said if each pharmacy administered 100 shots per day, the state could distribute 1.5 million shots per week.

“We would be done with seniors in three weeks,” he said. “That’s why it shows that, you know, it’s a supply issue.”
