Woman arrested after hit-and-run crash in Daytona Beach Shores, police say

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — A woman was arrested Friday after a hit-and-run crash in Daytona Beach Shores, police said.

Officers said Lauren Meyers, 33, caused an accident Wednesday around 4 p.m. that seriously injured a pedestrian on the sidewalk in front of the Winn Dixie Plaza at 2200 S. Atlantic Ave.

Police said a husband and wife were waiting at a bus stop after buying groceries when Meyers caused a crash nearby.

According to a report, the car struck a light post then slammed into the bus sign where the two pedestrians were standing.

Police said the husband pushed his wife away from the vehicle coming toward them to prevent her from being injured.

The crash caused the man to suffer a serious head injury and he was taken to a hospital, where he remains hospitalized.

Police said a tip led to Meyers’ location and she was arrested at a restaurant in Daytona Beach.

Records show Meyers was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony based on the victim’s injuries, and tampering with evidence.
