VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood was hit by a car while riding his bike on Thursday.
Deputies said he was riding in Port Orange when he was hit at Town West Boulevard and Daylily Street around 4:30 p.m.

Investigators said the mirror of a red Hyundai hit Chitwood on the back and then left the scene.
Deputies said Chitwood is in good spirits and has minor injuries.

This is the second time that Chitwood has been hit by a vehicle while cycling in recent years.
