Volusia County sees more than 1,500 drug overdose patients this year

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County hospitals are seeing more and more drug overdose patients being brought in for help.

Data obtained by Channel 9 from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows there are 737 doses of Narcan given in 2018, the nasal spray given to help treat a drug overdose and revive a person.

By 2019, the number of Narcan units deployed grew to 872 doses. But this year, it’s already surpassed the totals from the previous two years with 1,547 doses given as of Dec. 3.
