Two arrested in connection with death of Port Orange woman, police say

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Two people were arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Port Orange, police said.

On July 28, police said they responded to 1428 New Bolton Drive in reference to a call for smoke in a structure.

Police said Elizabeth Adams was found dead inside the home. An autopsy conducted by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office showed Adams was the victim of a homicide and she suffered several injuries.

On Saturday, police arrested Dougnitrio Smith, 22 and Kathryn C. Matson, 30 in connection with the investigation.

Smith was charged with first-degree murder, arson, arson with great bodily harm, burglary with battery and sexual batter on a physically helpless victim He is being held at the Volusia County Jail with no bail.

Officers said Matson is accused of dealing in stolen property in relation to the investigation. She was transported to the Volusia County Jail and faces a $2,500 bail.
