VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers investigate deadly head-on collision in Volusia County, road shut down

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning in Volusia County.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 472 and East Minnesota Avenue.

Troopers said that a Kia Rio was traveling eastbound in the westbound land of State Road 472.

According to troopers, the Rio was traveling the wrong way with no headlights on and crashed head-on into a Hyundai Elantra that was traveling westbound.

The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Elantra were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Westbound lanes of State Road 472 remain closed at this time.

This crash remains under investigation.
