VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood provided a minute-by-minute play-by-play of what happened leading up to an armed 14-year-old girl being shot by deputies on Tuesday.

Here’s the timeline Chitwood provided at a news conference late Tuesday night:

5 p.m.: The 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were reported missing shortly before 5 p.m. from Florida United Methodist Children’s Home.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.: Deputies said they were alerted to a break-in at a home on Enterprise Osteen Road.
8:28 p.m.: The first deputy arrives at the home and is met with gunfire, but does not return fire, according to the sheriff.

8:31 p.m.: More deputies report that they’ve arrived on scene and are being fired at.
8:33 p.m.: A third group of deputies report gunfire from the home.
8:40 p.m.: The sheriff said the 14-year-old threatened to kill a deputy on scene.

8:54 p.m.: The sheriff said deputies threw a cellphone into the home to try to talk to the pair. The sheriff said the 14-year-old came out of the garage with a pump shotgun and pointed it at deputies. He said despite warnings to drop it, she walked back into the garage, came back out a second time, and was shot by deputies.
