DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Police are working to find a man who stabbed a man and woman to death in a Daytona Beach neighborhood.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said this was one of the most disturbing crime scenes he had ever seen in his career.

Young said they shifted a mobile command post from Bike Week events because of the nature of the crime.

Officers originally arriving at the scene at the 700 block of North Wild Olive Avenue thought it was a hit-and-run.

Two bodies were found on the grass just off the road.

When they got close they found a Daytona Bach husband and wife who had been stabbed repeatedly.

They had their throats cut and were then dragged off the street.

Police said the attack happened around 1 a.m. and none of the neighbors saw or heard anything.

We did see officers pull a cell phone out of the bushes after looking for it for a few minutes.

The chief says this crime does not look like a robbery.

“We can’t rule out that this may be totally random,” Young said. “But if it is totally random, the person responsible has to be deranged.”

Young said nothing makes sense yet, but they will leave no stone unturned.

Police are looking for a man they believe was wearing light-colored or white pants and a backpack.

Investigators are also looking for security camera video in the area to help them develop more leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Daytona Beach Police Detective Howell at 671-5257.
