State Fire Marshall investigating strip mall fire in Daytona Beach, officials say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The State Fire Marshall is investigating an early morning fire that occurred at a strip mall in Daytona Beach.

Daytona Beach Fire Department responded to the Village Plaza Shopping Center around 4 a.m. on Thursday for a commercial structure fire. Several units of the strip mall located on Beville Road were affected by the fire.

According to the fire department the fire began in unit F, which was occupied by a nutritional store. The other units were unoccupied and not open at the time of the fire.

The strip mall did not have a sprinkler suppression system, and firefighters were faced with an extremely large and difficult fire, according to fire officials.

Daytona Beach Firefighters determined the cause to be suspicious and called the State Fire Marshal to investigate.
