NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A 22-year-old woman from Sanford was bitten by a shark Friday afternoon in New Smyrna Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety.

Lifeguards said the woman was bitten on the foot around 5 p.m. in waist deep water near the area of 4600 Atlantic Avenue.

Her injures were non-life threatening and she was not taken to a hospital, officials said.
Lifeguards said this is the fourth shark bite in Volusia County this year.
