16-year-old shot and killed at house party, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — 3:30 p.m. Update:

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim in this shooting as 16-year-old Xyrus Zelaya. Zelaya was a student at Deltona High School, deputies said.

The other surviving victim, a 17-year-old male, is not being identified at this time.

According to deputies, they have been in contact with school officials who are aware of the incident and will provide information to parents and students regarding grief counseling..

This remains an active investigation.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Deltona that left one person dead and another with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said they were called to Halifax Health around 12:05 a.m. after hospital staff reported that a gunshot victim was brought in privately.

According to deputies, a second victim was also brought to another hospital by private transport.

The person brought to Halifax died from his injuries, deputies said.

The investigation led detective to 1400 Waterview Drive in Deltona, where they believe the shooting occurred during a house party.

The identities of the victims are not being released at this time pending family notifications.
